Hey Cupcake, Be My Valentine

The first tutorial I ever shared with you all was how to make a “cupcake” candy. That was back in 2011!

Cupcake Candy

I had made some as welcome baby favors when my niece Sofia was born. I also used the idea for a girls’ summer camp craft class using small mason jars and cereal. Lastly, I made an apple version for Suraya’s 2nd grade teacher as a back to school gift.

As I was rummaging through some old pictures, I came across pictures of the favors I made when Sofia was born. I thought, “Huh. These would be so cute for Valentine’s too!” Of course I couldn’t resist and that’s exactly what I did…

Valentine Cupcake Candy

I made a Valentine’s Day Cupcake Candy!

These are quite simple to make. Just in case you never did catch my original tutorial, I thought to recycle it and share it with you all once again!

Supplies needed: Loose candy of choice (such as M&Ms, Sixlets, conversation hearts), Topper (such as gum ball), Cupcake liner, Plastic wrap, Toothpick, and Clear tape (regular and double sided).

Cupcake Candy Tutorial

Step 1. Cut out a large piece of plastic wrap. Use a small bowl to help keep the candy in place. Pour in about 3.7 oz of sixlets (a kitchen scale would be handy here if you have one)… weight may vary if you use different candy. {I used about 3.5 oz of M&Ms for the Valentine cupcake}

Step 2. Gather up the ends and twist really tight forming a somewhat rounded top.

Step 3. Coil the twisted end, and tape it down with regular tape (I like keeping that excess rather cut it off because it gives the “cupcake” top a lift). {Two pieces of tape criss crossed is all you need}

Then place double sided tape on top of the taped coil. {Again, two pieces of tape criss crossed is all you need}

Cupcake Candy Tutorial Part 2

Step 4. Place the candy ball in the cupcake liner.

Step 5. Insert the toothpick in the candy you are using as your topper. {For a gum ball, you will want to first make a hole using a thick sewing needle and then insert the toothpick}.

Step 6. Lastly, insert the topper into the center of the cupcake.

That’s all there is to making a cupcake candy. A sweet little gift to share on any occasion…. including Valentine’s!

Tutorial originally shared in August 2011.
